When the Lord Jesus shines His light, darkness has no choice but to flee. I’m often reminded of a light bulb in a room when I consider this statement. Before someone turns on the light in a room, there is darkness. When the lights are out, darkness seems to be deep and unyielding. We find ways to cope in a dark room, including feeling our way around to move from one end of the room to another. When we do this, we may bump into a chair or a table in the room, hurting ourselves in the process.
However, once the light bulb is turned on, everything is clear. We see where the chairs and tables are. We easily move around the room, and the darkness becomes a faint memory.
The same happens to us spiritually when Jesus shines His light. Darkness cannot be where He is. When we accept Jesus and commit to being with Him, things start to become clear. We start to move with precision and accuracy. We fall and stumble less. Daily, we become stronger and more obedient. We reach more people and start reflecting the light that has been freely given to us.
I pray we allow Jesus’ light to shine on us today.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:5, NIV

Prayer: Father, we thank you for giving us Jesus to die for us. Today we pray for Your grace and mercy to stay close to Jesus. We pray that the light of Jesus may shine on all parts of our lives. We pray that all darkness leaves as we hide ourselves in Jesus, our wonderful savior. All this we pray in Jesus’ mighty name! Amen.
