How to Feel God’s Love: A 10 Minute Devotional

God is love. We have heard it said many times before. Because He is love, God sent Jesus to the earth for us:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16

Sometimes, it is difficult to feel God’s love in everyday life. The seasons of life can bring storms that mute our ability to feel God’s love for us. What can we do in such moments? Below, we share a few tips.

Ask God to Help You Feel His Love

Sometimes, a simple prayer asking God to help you feel and know that He loves you works wonders. God is not interested in us coming to Him with perfect prayers. He wants us to come just as we are. When we talk to God like we would talk to a friend, we start to build our friendship with Him. Over time, this allows us to feel His love more and more.

For it is God who works in you to will and to act to fulfill his good purpose.
Philippians 2:13

Reflection Question: Will you ask God today to help you to Feel His love for you?

Feel His Love in Every Day Joyful Moments

Remember that time somebody made you smile? That was a moment God used to remind you of His love. Because God loves us, He gives us gifts in our lives that bring joy. Sometimes it can be through the innocence of a child, the random kindness of a stranger, or even an inspiring message you saw or heard somewhere. Remember those moments. They may just be heavenly whispers of love to you.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
James 1:17

Reflection Question: Do you recall any recent moments of joy in your life? Do they remind you of God’s love?

Spend Some Time in Nature

Nature often reminds us of God’s love. He made it all – the sun, trees, grass, animals, mountains and sea. God, in His kindness, allows us to experience the beauty and splendor of nature in many ways. We can take a walk in the park, climb a mountain, swim in the sea, stare at the stars, or even sit and feel the grass under our feet. Knowing that God created nature for our enjoyment and sustenance reminds us that He loves us.

The heavens declare the glory of God
The skies proclaim the work of his hands
Day after day they pour forth speech
Night after night they reveal knowledge
Psalm 19:1-2

Reflection Question: Do you experience God when you are out in nature? When you look at nature, what reminds you of God’s love the most?

Help or Be Kind to Someone

Being kind to another person takes our focus away from ourselves. When we are focused on others, we see the joy our actions bring to their lives. This creates space to feel love ourselves. The more we love others, the more we feel God’s love.

We love because he first loved us.
1 John 4:19

Reflection Question: Are you willing to help or be kind to someone today?
