Benefits of Thinking the Highest Thought

Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Often, we are unaware of what we are thinking or why. But our thoughts matter. Our thoughts influence the decisions we make. The decisions we make form our habits, and our habits define our character.

Thoughts dictate our actions.
Thoughts shape our view of others.
Thoughts regulate our reactions and emotions.
Our thoughts make us who we are over time.

Paul reminds us in Philippians to think the highest thought.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Philippians 4:8, NIV

When we think the highest thought, our actions and reactions become more Christlike. We respond in compassion instead of anger. We forgive easily. We demonstrate God’s love to the world around us, even when it is hard.

Thinking the highest thought is not easy, but we have a helper, the Holy Spirit. If we allow Him, He tunes our minds towards all that is true, noble, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. The Holy Spirit helps us to see truth and hope in others, ourselves, and every situation. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we stay on mission, spreading the joy and the hope we have found in Jesus, our savior.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, today we thank you for sending us a helper, the Holy Spirit. We are grateful that you are care about every detail of our lives, including our thoughts. We ask for your help to always think the highest thought in every situation. For your glory alone. Amen.
