How God Saves and Ransoms Us Because of His Great Love

Imagine you are still living at home with your parents. One night, they tell you not to leave the house. There is a gang at large in the city, and everyone has been advised to stay indoors. This night, however, is the one when your best friend is celebrating their birthday, just two houses down the street

“It’s a two-minute walk,” you reason. “Our neighborhood is safe. The gang will never come here.”

So you sneak out of the house. You can see the lights in your friend’s house and they are excited to see you coming. Suddenly, the smile on their face changes into a horrified look. Then it all goes dark.

When you come to, you are back in your room. Your father is sitting by your bed. He smiles as you awake. “Welcome back,” he says. He tells you that the gang kidnapped and drugged you, then demanded a ransom. He sold all the electronics in the house to raise the money to get you back. There is no anger or condemnation on his face as he tells you this. “I love you, my child, and I would give anything to get you back.”

That is what God says to us today. He loves us so much that He gave the ultimate sacrifice – Jesus – to save us. We serve a God who paid the highest ransom for us. Won’t you thank Him with me today?

For I am the Lord your God,
The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I give Egypt for your ransom,
Cush and Seba in your stead.
Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
And because I love you,
I will give people in exchange for you,
Nations in exchange for your life.
Isaiah 43:3-4, NIV

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your great love for us. While we were still sinners, Jesus you died for us. We do not take this great price you paid for granted. We are grateful. Help us, Lord Jesus to follow you wholeheartedly, now and forever more. Amen.
